Classic Literature That Changed My Life

Classic literature also reveals our dark history and possibly dark present in a way that whitewashed history books do not. This can be seen in books like The Scarlett Letter, which reveals the way a women’s sexuality was seen back then, or To Kill a Mockingbird, which holds the unfortunately still-present Black men struggle with the biased nature of the law. It also plays with the meaning of morality in a way that only Oscar Wilde and Ursule Le Guin know how to do. All of this is also why so many classic books are being banned in schools.

Food: A Window into Other Cultures

While it may be hard to catch a flight to Morocco and China to experience their culture, food allows us to experience a snippet of each country’s culture with significantly less money. And while the U.S. may not have a lot to brag about, food diversity does appear to be one of its raging pros. Americans seem to take for granted the amount of traveling one can do with just a few minutes of driving. The fact that one can still experience Asia’s finesse with the use of chopsticks and the savoring of Sake, or that one can be a victim of India’s spice infatuation with just a walk down the block, or receive some of Puerto Rico’s warmth with some of their mondongo from down the street, it all emphasizes the effect the food market has created in terms of cultural unity.

Most Banned Books in the U.S. Is It Necessary?

For decades society has been a victim of censorship, whitewashing, and banning. Either history is told a different way, or it is retold in hushed tones. As if shouting, it would erupt mass chaos and destruction. Book banning can be seen in two ways: either an attempt at shielding younger generations away from accurate aspects of life that they will, regardless, find out about in the future; or an attempt at hiding history and developing in students a narrow worldview. It means a denial of First Amendment rights and proven psychological deficits.
