Canadian singer and songwriter Avril Lavigne, most known for her great success as a teenager for her grungy punk-rock sound, was born on September 27, 1984, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Lavigne grew up in Napanee, Ontario, where she grew to love music at a very young age. She began her singing journey singing at church and local events singing predominantly Christian and country songs.
She gained popularity and attention when she won a contest to perform a duet with the Canadian country and pop icon Shania Twain. She later moved to New York to work with professional music producers, where she signed a two-album contract at the age of 16. After then moving to Los Angeles, her first debut album, Let Go, went seven timed platinum and featured hits like ‘Complicated’ and ‘Sk8ter Boi.’She is formally known as the Punk Princess of the 2000s after her music earned her multiple Grammy Award nominations and Canadian Juno Awards.
