Balenciaga to show spring collection in Shanghai

Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2025 Runway is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, on May 30, 2024. This show will feature the brand’s 2025 spring women’s and men’s collections; the company decided to showcase this collection in the vibrant and fast-paced Chinese city to emphasize its focal point on the “global market” most specifically China’s “burgeoning luxury scene,” according to Dscene Magazine.

This isn’t the first time Balenciaga has had a show in Shanghai, as in 2021 it showcased its first haute couture collection in the city. According to Retail in Asia, the show date aligns well with the fashion industry’s 2025 cruise season with other luxury fashion houses announcing their upcoming destination shows as well: Chanel in Marseille on May 2, Gucci in London on May 13, and Max Mara in Venice on June 11.

This is the third international showcase for Balenciaga under its creative director Demna, following the 2023 New York presentation and the 2024 Los Angeles show. The fashion house’s parent company Kering (also the parent company for Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Yves Saint Laurent) recently revealed that the 2023 revenue for its “other houses,” including Balenciaga, “was down 9 percent to 3.5 billion euros,” all according to Fashion United.

Demna has added a unique flair to the company as its creative director; he has intricately intertwined luxury and streetwear with his unique designs that have set trends and popularized “dark” as well as “oversized clothing” and bold footwear, reports BNN Breaking News.

“I have to be me. I can’t repress my creativity. I can’t castrate my vision. I just can’t do those things. It’s not me. So this collection is a celebration of everything that I love about fashion,” Demna told Vogue of his 2024 Ready-To-Wear collection.
