According to a statement posted on Instagram, the late designer recently passed away peacefully, surrounded by his friends and loved ones on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026. As stated on CNN Style, Valentino “peacefully passed away today at his residence in Rome, surrounded by the love of his family.” While his body will lie in state for the rest of the week in Piazza Mignanelli, a historic square in Rome, Valentino will be laid to rest at his funeral, which is expected to be held on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, inside the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri.
Touching the lives of many in more ways than one, many celebrities have recently spoken out and expressed their immense sadness for the recent news. Expressing his heartbreak over Instagram, American actor and producer Leonardo DiCaprio wrote, “Giorgio Armani was a visionary whose influence reached far beyond design. I first met him many years ago in Milan, and I remember being blown away by his creativity and genius. He was a legendary force who inspired generations, and his legacy will continue to shape and uplift the world for years to come.”
Additionally, fellow fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg dedicated a short post on Instagram that highlighted her love and appreciation for the late designer. As stated on social media, Furstenberg wrote, “Goodbye and Rest in Peace Caro Giorgio! You have touched so many people with your elegance and will continue to inspire forever.”
