Batman spinoff series to come after “The Penguin”

Dylan Clark, producer of “The Batman,” has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that another spinoff series in Robert Pattinson’s universe is being looked at.

“There’s another television exploration we’re going to do. We’re looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is — the antagonists around them, all crime that has to be navigated in the city — and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore.”

This comes just two months before “The Penguin” is set to release on HBO and Max, the first spinoff in this new Batman universe.

Matt Reeves, director of “The Batman,” also told Entertainment Weekly some ideas that got shot down by HBO executives, such as series based on the Gotham police department and Arkham Asylum.

This is what Reeves said the executives told him:

“They were like, ‘We like what you’re doing, and we want to lean harder into the marquee characters.’”

Reeves also laid out some of the ideas about the Gotham PD series:

“It wasn’t going to be a Batman story, it was going about about this corrupt cop. And it was going to be about how the worst gang in Gotham were the GCPD. And [the cop] was going to come across paths, he would have touched paths with Gordon who would have been — it would have been someone to measure him against. Built it would be a battle for [the cop’s] soul.”

There is much speculation still on what the next spinoff could be about. A lot of fans are eager for a more in-depth look at the Joker, played by Barry Keoghan. Given how successful Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” movie was, moving toward giving the iconic clown a stand-alone show is a plausible move.

“The Penguin” releases September 8, 2024 on HBO and Max.
