Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a breathtaking film that caught the world by storm. Both it and the sequel pushed the boundaries of animation to their limits and gave a grand spectacle like no other, proving that animation is an art form that gravely needs more appreciation. Both movies were fantastic financially and artistically, leaving an audience to eagerly wait for the third installment. The third movie is said to be released on June 4th, 2027, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets delayed. As much as we want to see the movie, there are a few things behind the scenes that need to be worked out.
Ever since the sequel was released, many animators have come out to voice their experiences with the allegedly grueling working conditions they were put under by the producers and Sony. Hundreds of animators were forced to work 11-hour days throughout the year, with many scenes and visuals being changed and reworked to fit indecisive decisions. This eventually led to many animators leaving the project during production. The beautiful effects and visuals were all done by a team of worn-out and exhausted animators.
Animation takes a very long time to do. Not only that, but it needs to also be complemented with good writing, voice acting, and much more to have a completed product that viewers can enjoy. The movies are great, but I will gladly wait for the third one if it means that the animators are given better hours and paid for the hard work they put in. It also means that the movie won’t be rushed and given enough time to give the trilogy the ending it deserves. It might take a while, but it will be worth it in the end.
