Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have been turning heads with their method of theater-kid energy during their press tour. Their viral interview with Tracy E. Gilchrist for EqualPride launched the “holding space for Defying Gravity” meme on TikTok and got many talking about their commitment to their characters. Erivo and Grande’s commitment runs deeper than just holding hands and space for their hit movie, Wicked. The two have also donned their characters’ signature colors – green and pink – at every single movie premiere they have attended.
At the Australian premiere in Sydney, Erivo made subtle nods to Elphaba’s green skin by accessorizing a custom black Louis Vuitton gown with an 18K white gold lion brooch choker complete with emeralds and diamonds. The choker is estimated to cost $170,000. Grande stood by her side in a Vivienne Westwood dress with layers of pink tulle and peach crystals. Her bodice was covered in stars—a signature of the fashion house.
Later in Australia, the two appeared at a photocall. Erivo wore everything, Marc Jacobs, returning a look from the 2011 archive. She wore a black pencil skirt, a forest green long-sleeved top, signature Kiki boots, and accessorized with a small white hat. Grande wore a custom Bode two-piece set with a peach-colored skirt and a sleeveless top outfitted with cute pink bows.
In LA, Erivo wore a vibrant, green Louis Vuitton dress and a fluffy, fringy green coat. She accessorized with a diamond and emerald collar. Grande wore a Thom Browne strapless dress with pink and white checkered patterns. Once again, she accessorized with a large bow.
At the Mexico premiere, Erivo channeled the classic Wicked Witch look with a black Thom Browne column dress, pointy gloves, and a hooded top. Grande contrasted her in a deep V Versace gown with a pale pink bodice and shimmery skirt.
In New York, Erivo wore another custom black Dior dress featuring a wide waistline and sweetheart neck. She layered it with a sheer long-sleeve top. Grande stunned in a strapless Louis Vuitton peplum gown. The mermaid cut dress included a slit to show off her heels.
From Europe to North America, Grande and Erivo defy gravity with their outlandish styles while staying true to the characters they bring to life on the big screen.
