Disney Opposes “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

Republicans are against the support from Disney on the LGBTQ community. They are trying to protect free markets and conduct the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The Disney theme parks had earned millions of dollars in incentives since the 1960s.

The “Don’t Say Gay” bill refrains primary school kids to learn about sexual orientation and gender identity. Floridians intended to have their tax inventive go to affordable housing, veteran services, and school infrastructure.

Republicans have been deeply involved in politics represented in the classrooms. They’ve been pushing for anti-LGBTQ laws across the country such as Texas and Utah. Ricardo Martinez, CEO of Equality Texas, said, “It feels relentless and never-ending at this moment, which I haven’t felt in quite some time. It feels like we’re being attacked from many places. It feels like we’re being erased, or people are trying to erase us from schools.”

Melanie Willingham-Jaggers, executive director of GLSEN, said, “Folks have learned about what was most effective from previous cycles. They’ve taken those little bits of what had been successful and gained traction, and they’ve pumped it full of steroids and they’ve unleashed it on all of us.” Some republican families were shocked about what their kids were learning in school when they were listening to the Zoom classes.

One Florida Republican stated, “Disney has become so pro-gay and are pulling donations to Republicans telling them that they’re going to openly oppose them for fighting the parents’ rights in education bill. They’re basically punishing Disney by removing their special privileges.” Another Republican suggested Orange County to regulate this bill if Disney wants to embrace them. Disney has donated a lot of money both to Democrats and Republicans.

Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, shares, “It was unfortunate that Disney decided to wade into a political debate and attempt to undermine a common-sense law, enacted by a duly elected legislature and signed by a duly elected governor, with the support of the vast majority of Floridians.”

Some people question Disney’s opposition to the bill because they had funded Republicans before. Disney has been given exceptions to many laws, but this one may be the last.
