European Style Vs. American Style. Which is Better?

When you hear European style, what do you think of it? Now, when you hear American style, what do you think? Chances are, these images in your head are very different.

European fashion is known for its class and elegance. Daily outfits look carefully put together and are always stylish. American fashion is known for its cozier, informal style. Looks change consistently through each day as people dress up for events they have, or create casual looks, such as sweatpants and a sweatshirt.

The casualness of American fashion is not a hit in European countries. Workout and athletic clothes would never be seen in Europe unless that person was working out. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are meant for being at home in Europe. Leggings are also not a staple in Europe as they are in America.

This difference between casual in America and dressy in Europe shows the main differences in fashion. When Americans need to, they can dress up and be classy. It usually just takes a special occasion. Europe doesn’t have occasions for them to dress casually, though.

Fashion, in the end, comes down to culture. In European countries, elegant and formal dress is considered the social norm, and casual dress, while acceptable for tourists, could be seen as a disregard for social norms. American culture is laid back, seen by how people dress, sometimes even wearing pajamas out.

Europe also has some of the world’s largest, and oldest, fashion brands. Founded in France in the 1800s, Hermes and Louis Vuitton are two hugely famous brands. Other well-known brands, this time originating from Italy, include Prada, Gucci, and Versace. These companies are all known for their luxury style.

Some well-known American fashion companies include Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, and Kate Spade. These companies are known for specific items. Calvin Klein for their jeans and advertising campaigns, Tommy Hilfiger for their red, white, and blue colors and fashion staple pieces, similar to Coach and Kate Spade are known for their affordable luxury purses.

When it comes to whether European or American fashion is better, the answer comes down to the person. Fashion is culturally and socially influenced, in the end, the one wearing the outfit is you. Whatever you prefer is what wins.
