Father of Georgia high school shooter charged with Murder

Colin Gray, whose son Colt killed four people and sent nine to the hospital in a shooting that took place at Apalachee High School, was arrested for murder on Thursday. According to reports, the parents of the shooter were going through a divorce at the time. His mother could obtain custody of her two other children, while the suspect remained with his father. Colin bought the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting for his son as a Christmas gift.

According to Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith, “Second-degree murder is different in Georgia than in other states. It’s a rather new charge, and it is specifically geared towards cruelty to children in the second degree. If you commit cruelty to children in the second degree that causes death, that is second-degree murder… There will be additional charges on Colt Gray. When he was taken into custody on Wednesday, we did not have the identities or the conditions of the other victims. So we were not able to charge on those offenses.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) says that he has been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. Meanwhile, Colt has been charged with four counts of felony murder according to GBI.

Colin will appear in his first court hearing today after being arrested yesterday.
