An explosion in Fort Worth Texas has injured over a dozen people. According to NBC News, at least twenty-one people were injured due to an explosion in Sandman Signature Fort Worth Downtown Hotel Monday early afternoon.
The authorities stated that out of all those injured, four sustained serious wounds, while one was in critical condition.
Craig Trojacek, a representative for the Fort Worth Fire Department stated that the first calls towards the incident happened after 3:30 p.m. NBC reported that 26 of the hotel rooms were occupied during the explosion, which blew out large sections of the wall and windows from the hotel’s first two floors.
While there isn’t an official cause for the explosion, a gas leak was hypothesized due to the pungent smell of gas in the area, though it’s still unknown whether the leak was the true cause or if was a byproduct of the explosion.
In response to the disaster, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement declaring the state government was ready to assist in delivering resources needed for the immediate aftermath and the investigation going forward.
“We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to immediately deploy any additional personnel and resources needed to keep Texans in the area safe and out of harm’s way,” wrote Abbott. “Cecilia and I ask all Texans to pray for those who were injured in the explosion, as well as those bravely responding to keep others safe.”
