DJ of the Month for December 2020
G-Bo the Pro worked with his partner DJ Rei Double R in producing must have mixtapes in the early 90s. At the age of 10, he was introduced to DJing by his brother and later fell in love with the DJ scene in New York. He began his professional career at 21 when he started making mixtapes. Their productions were very unique for the time as their mixtapes deviated from what was mainstream at the time. Most mixtapes in the 90s utilized the classic two turn tables with the DJs being very vocal on the tracks. On G-Bo the Pro’s mixtapes, however, there were less vocals and a more complex production of music that impressed his audiences. From there, G-bo the Pro’s career evolved to beat making and producing. After signing a few deals with artists, however, he returned to his initial love of DJing. Most recently he played every Sunday brunch at Beatstro, a Hip Hop themed restaurant in the Bronx. In the restaurant lined with authentic graffiti, boomboxes, and photographs by Joe Conzo, G-Bo the Pro played every Sunday for two years. There, he reached audiences of all kinds of people allowing his music to be universally enjoyed by those from all walks of life.
