Instagram & Facebook sitting in a tree…..

Instagram is a free photo-sharing mobile application that enables users to apply various filters, change the shape of photos and share them with social networks and friends all right from their mobile devices. Making its debut to Apple’s App Store on October 6th, 2010, Instagram was strictly Apple-specific until April 3rd of this year, when it was made available in the Adroid market and achieved a million downloads in just 12 hours. With about 10,000 Facebook “likes” and roughly 30million active users, the numbers are growing exponentially.
It was about 2pm today, April 9th that the social network owner Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook just
acquired the photo sharing application that is Instagram. There is some concern that Instagram will become completely Facebook-ized, but Zuckerberg promises to grow and build it independently. “In order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.” He wrote in a post “We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.” Originally, Instagram intended to remain an independent company and it was only upon the second request that the deal was accepted and is expected to become official later in the quarter, agreed upon at $1billion of cash and stock.
Zuckerberg’s post has already gained almost 10,000 likes in just two hours. I think that speaks for the feelings about this marriage. Congrats to both parties!
