Kamala Harris delivers speech at rally in Milwaukee, crowd chants with her

Kamala Harris went to Wisconsin for her first rally since she secured enough delegates to become the likely Democratic nominee for the presidential race. Harris was expected to lay out the Democratic Party’s case against former President Donald Trump, and it seems that she did just that.

Harris held the rally in Milwaukee, the site of last week’s Republican National Convention and the first stop for her campaign. This is the fifth time this year Harris has been to Wisconsin, a state projected to be a must-win if she is to win the presidency this November.

Harris had a lot to say about Donald Trump in the rally:

“I took on perpetrators of all kinds: predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say: I know Donald Trump’s type.

Harris also had news about her campaign donations, telling the rally, “We just had the best 24 hours of grassroots fundraising in presidential campaign history and because we are a people-powered campaign that is how you know we will be a people-first presidency.”

Harris’ campaign announced that it raised $81 million in the first 24 hours since Harris announced she will seek the Democratic nomination.

Harris also highlighted some issues in her speech that will be focal point moving forward, including:

  • Affordable health care
  • Affordable child care
  • Paid family leave
  • Restore reproductive freedom
  • Retirement with dignity
  • Right to vote for all Americans
  • Reducing gun violence by way of red flag laws, universal background checks and an assault weapons ban
  • Workers’ freedom to unionize

Harris had the crowd chanting halfway through her speech, exclaiming that Trump and the Republican party  want to “take us back then to a time when insurance companies had the power to deny people with pre-existing conditions … America has tried these failed economic policies before, we are not going back.”

This led to the crowd chanting “We’re not going back,” much to Harris’ support.

Harris is to speak in Indiana this Wednesday, another stop on her campaign trail.
