Kanye West, now known as “Ye,” has always done things that are outside the norm. Whether telling the world on national TV that “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” or interrupting Taylor Swift’s 2009 VMA speech to claim that “Beyonce had the best video of all time,” this man has always been an outspoken, erratic person. However, these last couple of years have seen greater controversy from Ye than ever before.
Recently, Kanye released a new song, “Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine”. The song features his daughter, North West, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. This is very concerning, considering the former Hip Hop star, Diddy, is currently in jail for sex crime charges. There was a huge uproar on social media about this song for those exact reasons. Even Kanye West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, has shown her public displeasure with this song. As the artist posted screenshots of their messages, she wrote: “I sent paperwork over so she wouldn’t be in the Diddy song.” Her cease and desist on the song caused Kanye to eventually delete it from music platforms. A messy situation indeed, but this still does not wipe away the problematic nature that he has been harboring.
Weeks before this incident, Kanye embarked on a social media tirade of posts on X that were uncomfortable. One post displayed the rapper’s line of clothing on his Yeezy website with swastikas and initials saying “HH”, speculated to be “Hail Hitler,” on the shirts. It hurts, considering he’s also, for some reason, praised Hitler and proclaimed himself a Nazi. Another post from last month also had Kanye claiming that he has hit women and that he stands by none other than P.Diddy. That nasty chain of posts clearly shows that he definitely needs mental health assistance. It’s downright disgusting behavior from an artist who was once a trailblazer in artistic expression and thought.
Kanye West is arguably the most important artist of the 21st Century. These shenanigans are leading down a path of no return. He is tarnishing his legacy and deleting his historical impact. It’s possible that he is doing this for publicity stunts and shock value, but this is not it. He needs to get the proper medication he needs to function. With the self-destructive path he’s on, Ye will have to work hard to regain the support of his fans.
