The Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets squared off in what most thought would be a rather easy victory for the Nuggets. Denver is coming off a trip to the Western Conference Final where they eventually lost to the future NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers. The Kings boast a young roster that is very promising.
De’Aron Fox scored 21 points grabbed four rebounds and dished out seven assists in 39 minutes. Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield also had fantastic games. Barnes had 21 Points nine rebounds and five assists in 42 minutes and Buddy Hield had 22 points four rebounds and three assists. The young core looked very strong in this season opener.
The Nuggets couldn’t seem to get production out of their super star point guard Jamal Murray as he only had nine points four rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes. However, Nikola Jokic put up a triple-double scoring 29 points grabbing 15 rebounds and tossing 14 assists. Michael Porter Jr. also had a huge game scoring 24 points.
The Nuggets outscored the kings in the first and the second half but were blown out in the third quarter. The game ended up being tied at the end of the fourth quarter forcing overtime. It seemed like the Nuggets had the game in the bag as Will Barton had a wide upon layup to put them up four with 10 seconds to go in overtime. De’Aron Fox came out of nowhere to block Barton’s shot from behind forcing a Kings fast break the other way. Harrison Barnes ran the distance of the floor and put up a layup tying the game with five seconds to go. Barnes then stole the ball off the Nuggets inbound and had a fast break again with 3 seconds to go. He missed a dunk but was followed up by Buddy Hield who tapped in the rebound with just .06 seconds to go.
The basket counted and Buddy Hield and the Kings sprinted off the floor into the locker rooms leaving the Nuggets in disbelief. The Kings stole a game right out from under Denver and you could tell by the look on their faces.
