Last year, the West End’s Kit Kat Club announced their revival of Cabaret would have performances on Broadway starting this spring (April 2024); they have now announced their cast, which includes the return of Tony and Olivier Award winner Eddie Redmayne as The Emcee, and Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles, along with some interesting new faces.
One very intriguing cast announcement was that of Drag Performer Marty Lauter as Victor. Lauter is known to many as Marcia Marcia Marcia. Yes, that is Marcia 3 times! Fans of the popular reality competition “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (2009) may recognize Lauter as a standout cast member and competitor from season 15 (2023).
“So thrilled to be doing Cabaret on Broadway this spring 🖤 @kitkatclubnyc Victor & Emcee u/s”, stated Marcia on her social media. Many fellow “Drag Race Alumni” cast members and fans chimed in on the comment section congratulating Lauter for the accomplishment. Among them was an enthusiastic “THRILLED FOR YOU” from fellow Theater enthusiast, Emmy-winning producer, and Drag Race judge, Michelle Visage.
For those unfamiliar, “The Kit Kat Klub” is a reimagined revival of Cabaret directed by Rebecca Frecknall, and it is currently playing on London’s West End. On the West End run of the production, the Playhouse Theatre was rebuilt as an in-the-round cabaret space called the Kit Kat Club per theatermania.com. The New York chapter of the show will transform the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway into a similarly configured Kit Kat Club, where ticketed audience members are invited to arrive early to take in pre-show drinks, dining, and entertainment.
According to kitkat.club, the show has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff, it is based on the play “I Am a Camera” by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood.
The cast for Broadway revival will also include Gabi Campo as Frenchie, Ayla Ciccone-Burton as Helga, Colin Cunliffe as Hans, Loren Lester as Herman/Max, David Merino as Lulu, Julian Ramos as Bobby, MiMi Scardulla as Texas, Paige Smallwood as Rosie; who will be joined by swings Hannah Florence, Pedro Garza, Christian Kidd, Corinne Munsch, Chloé Nadon-Enriquez, and Karl Skyler Urban according to latest announcements. Performers for the Prologue company of Cabaret, who welcome visitors to the world of the Kit Kat Club, are yet to be announced, according to theatermania.com.
