Kyrie Gets Revenge Against the Celtics

The NBA is famous for having great matchups on Christmas day. This year was no different. The Brooklyn Nets took on the Boston Celtics in an an eastern conference battle. The game started out very close between the two offensive powerhouses and the Celtics went into the half leading 54-51.

Led by Kyrie Irving the Nets started to pull away in the third, outscoring the Cs 35-23. The fourth quarter ended up being a blow out by the Nets, they outscored the Celtics by 19 points and looked un-guardable on offense. A result that not many expected as the Celtics are one of the best teams in the league, and the east especially.

Kyrie Irving put on a show against his former team. He shot 13/21 (62%), 7/10 from three, putting up 37 points contributing six rebounds and eight assists. He set the Nets franchise record for most points on Christmas day. It was clear that Irving had something to prove against his old team considering the fall out that took place between them.

During post-game interviews when asked about the results of the game, Irving had this to say:

“It was nothing tactical going into the second half,” he told reporters.” It was really up to us to make high basketball IQ plays and then be able to stop them on the defensive end.”

“What’s there to be content about? What’s there to be happy about? It’s two games. Let’s move on to the next game. Let’s get ready for Charlotte. Let’s go do this thing again. Let’s have some fun.”

Kevin Durant also had a solid game scoring 29 points grabbing 4 rebounds and finding open teammates for four assists. The duo had 66 points combined in a huge win for the Nets who look to contend for the NBA Championship later this year.
