Singer and actress Marianne Faithfull died Jan. 30, 2025, her spokesperson said.
Faithfull was popular for her song “As Tears Go By.” In the 1960s, she famously dated Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and inspired the songs” Wild Horses” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
Faithfull was born in Hampstead, London, in 1946. She began her career in 1964 when she attended a Rolling Stones party and was discovered by English record producer Andrew Loog Oldham.
In 1965, Faithfull released her debut studio album, “Marianne Faithfull,” and her album “Come My Way.” Her albums were huge successes, and she continued to release albums under Decca Records.
Faithfull appeared on the big screen in “Girl On A Motorcycle” (1968) and on stage in Chekhov’s Three Sisters (1967) and Hamlet (1969).
In the late 60s, Faithfull ran into drug use problems, but she came back for a bit in the 70s to release a country album titled “Dreamin’ My Dreams.” In the 80s, Faithfull returned to music clean and with a collection of classic pop and blues on her album “Strange Weather.”
The seasoned singer and actress went through a lot during her time. She sold albums, was a homeless heroin addict, had a miscarriage, lost temporary custody of her child, had a suicide attempt, had several trips to rehab, and was arrested for drugs in 1967; Faithfull saw it all.
Faithfull’s influence spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on her fans and the world. She will be missed dearly.
