Chappell Roan Prepares for Grammys

With less than a week until her first Grammys appearance, Chappell Roan released an earnest social media post thanking her fans for their support during the biggest year of her career. The “Good Luck, Babe” singer has been nominated for six Grammys, including Best New Artist, where she’ll face off against Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, and Benson Boone.

“It’s Grammy week. I am very emo,” the singer said in an Instagram post. “My heart feels warm and fuzzy with all the support I have been given this past year. I hope you can understand that this has been incredible and scary and spiritual and confusing. I’ve been crying tears of joy and grief and feeling loved and lonely and free.”

February 2 will be a big night for Roan, who was nominated in the event’s top categories, including Best Song, Best Album, and Best Record. She is also slated for a performance at the event. After achieving seemingly overnight success with her latest album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Roan exploded on the music scene, selling out venues and festivals for which she wasn’t even headlining. “Ultimately, I am grateful for every one of you who gave my music a little spin and showed your ass up to shows and festivals,” she said.

Roan faced criticism months after catapulting to superstardom for her seemingly cold response to fans and requests for space and privacy as she coped with her sudden change in publicity. Others criticized her for speaking out against the Biden administration’s support of Israel and refusing to publicly endorse Kamala Harris. Despite the backlash, Roan has remained a beacon of hope for her fans, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community.

“Just know when I’m up on stage, all I’m feeling in my heart is love [for] the queer community, especially those in places where it is unsafe to be yourself. I see you,” she said.
