Mean Girls, the 2024 adaptation has arrived to a theater near you

“Mean Girls,” the 2024 musical adaptation has officially hit theaters and fans are raving for it.

Tina Fey wrote the original film in 2004 that starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfriend, and Lacey Chabert. The movie became a huge hit, and Fey brought the idea to Broadway in 2018 as a musical that starred Renee Rapp as Regina George.

After the Broadway musical was a success, Fey moved to bring the musical adaptation to the big screen for 2024. Fans everywhere wondered what the cast would look like–would there be original cast members from the 2004 production? How about any cast from the musical?

The 2024 film features actors from both. Renee Rapp will return as Regina in the new film, along with other familiar names. Fey will return as well as Tim Meadows, who played principal Duvall in the 2004 movie.

The film hit theaters on Jan. 12 and fans have a lot to say.

Aliyah Shammata, a writer for “The Carroll News,” gave her honest review on the film.

“Not much had changed from the original 2004 movie to the 2024 rendition besides the fact that during the opening scene, I realized that I was in for a musical and not just a remake,” Shammata wrote. “What I enjoyed the most, however, was that many of the jokes throughout the movie were taken from the original and still brought out a good laugh. Tina Fey, the writer and director of both films, kept her quick-witted humorous jokes and lighthearted message throughout the movie. I was a bit skeptical at first, but once Regina George came on screen, my thoughts completely changed. Regina’s opening song immediately caught my attention with the dim lights and slow pan to show her character. From this point on, I was captivated for the entire runtime of the movie.”

“Mean Girls” can still be viewed in a theater near you.
