Mets Brandon Nimmo provides update after Worrying head injury

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo gave fans an update after a serious health scare on Monday.

According to ESPN, Nimmo had fainted around 5 AM in his room at the Pentagon City hotel and struck his head as he collapsed. The player was promptly rushed to the hospital by Mets trainer Joe Golia. During Nimmo’s hospital stay, he underwent numerous tests, including a CT scan and an EKG.

Fortunately, doctors determined that he didn’t have a concussion, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. However, the outfielder did have a cut on his forehead as a result of the fall.

“He went through all the tests this morning,” Mendoza told reporters before Monday’s game.

“Wanted to make sure we weren’t missing anything. Luckily, everything came back negative, so I think we got lucky there.”

Nimmo met with reporters ahead of the Monday night game against the Washington Nationals to share his experience. After noting that he wouldn’t be playing in that game, he shared that he hoped to soon return to the field.

While an official cause for Nimmo’s faint spell hasn’t been made, doctors alleged that it could have been the result of “temporary loss of blood flow to his brain due to the muscle cramp.”

Doctors also hypothesized that anxiety could have been an additional cause of the event. Previously in June, Nimmo had undergone concussion tests after being hit by a pitch ball weeks earlier. However, MLB states that these two events are likely unrelated.

“It could happen one time in your life and you could never have to deal with it again,” Nimmo said.

“I asked them, ‘Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?’ And they said, ‘No.’ Sometimes, a perfect storm happens. What I understood is … when the blood pressure drops, your brain just loses the blood for, like, one second. And you’re out. It probably wasn’t very long that I was out. But long enough to fall and do a little bit of damage.”

Although Nimmo is reportedly feeling better, it is still unknown when he will return to the field.
