Michael Westmore is an influential American makeup artist. Born in 1938, Wesmore grew up in a family of makeup artists. In particular his father Monte Westmore, was a makeup artist for the influential film Gone with The Wind.

 

After attending and graduating from the University of California-Santa Barbara, Westmore began working for Universal Studios. While at Universal, Wesmore did make up on The Munsters and Land of the Lost. Eventually, he climbed up the ranks to Assistant Department Head of Make-Up. 

 

Westmore began working independently on various film projects, some of his first being Rocky and Raging Bull. For Raging Bull, Westmore designed the and even the CIA. Wesmore’s work can also be found in the Star Trek franchise, specifically on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. 

 

Wesmore won nine Grammy awards for his work and is considered to be one of the most influential makeup artists in the industry.
