N.Y.’s swing district democrats enthusiastic about VP Kamala Harris being potential presidential nominee

Democratic former congressman Mondaire Jones has shared his enthusiasm about Vice President Kamala Harris possibly replacing President Joe Biden in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Endorsing Harris after President Biden officially announced that he would be ending his reelection campaign, Jones said “People here are enthusiastic about a new generation of leadership embodied by Vice President Kamala Harris”.

Indeed, all six of New York’s swing-district Democratic candidates have endorsed Harris.

The Democratic Party plans to focus on lowering costs, limiting prescription drug costs, and securing the border.

While many Democrats across the country were worried that Biden’s poor reelection campaign would impact their chances of taking control of the House of Representatives, Jones did not.

Rather, the candidate for a House seat in Hudson Valley showed immense confidence in his campaign, regardless of which Democrat candidate was the party’s presidential nominee.

Spectrum News quoted Jones, saying, “Even with President Biden at the top of the ticket, I had a very clear path to victory”.

With Biden dropping out and Kamala taking over, Democrats are again optimistic about the fight for the House of Representatives this November.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Battleground New York spokeswoman Gabby Seay share Jones’ opinion regarding Kamala Harris. Seay has said:

“There has been such a surge of excitement around Vice President Harris—in grassroots, donors, and volunteers”

On the other side of politics, though, the Republicans believe Biden’s policies have hurt the Democratic Party. Republican incumbent Mike Lawler shared his opinion on the matter, saying:

“I don’t think much changes because Kamala Harris was part and parcel of this administration from the economy to the border to the challenges around the world, she was there every step of the way”.

If Kamala becomes president, she would likely pick up where she and Biden left off, so Lawler’s comments aren’t inaccurate.

Not sharing Jones’ confidence about the Democrat’s nominee, suburban politics expert Lawrence Levy states “it can…cause huge harm to candidates…perceived all along as doing a good job, but suddenly wake up after Election Day as losers”.

Both sides have made good points. The Democratic Party feels more confident with their new candidate, whom they believe is more capable, and the Republicans.

Meanwhile, the unique scenario of a nominee dropping out and another candidate, most likely the vice president, taking over, is new for America, making the future of the country’s politics difficult to predict.
