Now Donald Trump is a door-to-door Bible salesman. (Op-Ed)

Just when I thought Donald Trump couldn’t surprise me anymore, he managed to make my jaw drop to the floor. On Truth Social, Trump posted a video on Tuesday encouraging his followers to purchase the “God Bless the USA” Bible for the low, low price of $59.99. “Happy Holy Week! Let’s Make America Pray Again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the USA Bible,” Trump wrote, directing his supporters to a website where they could purchase the Bible, which contains the King James Translation, copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as a handwritten chorus of the famous Greenwood song that plays at every Trump rally.

“All Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many. It’s my favorite book,” Trump said in the video posted on Truth Social, “I’m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible. We must make America pray again.”

Our country was founded on religious freedom, a fact that Trump just cannot seem to grasp. Why should a Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, or Hindu American feel compelled to keep a Christian Bible in their home? Trump is for one America: a white, Christian, straight, cisgender, and male-dominant America that stands for oppression.

It’s just people of other religions who take offense to this — many Christians have expressed that the “God Bless the USA” Bible is blasphemous. Trump selling copies of the Bible “during Holy Week like it’s just one more overpriced Trump shoe or steak has really touched a nerve among voters—we’ve heard from many upset Faithful America members since his video appeared,” the Rev. Nathan Empsall, executive director of Faithful America, told Newsweek via email, “Seeing the indicted, would-be dictator, sell so-called ‘patriotic’ Bibles does provide a parallel to Holy Week, but it’s not with Jesus.”

Tara Setmayer, a senior advisor for The Lincoln Project, wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “there’s NOTHING ‘holy’ about selling Bibles ‘endorsed by Trump.’ More blasphemous grift.”

Donald Trump is desperately trying to secure his $175 million bond, and this is his latest ploy to garner funds. He has become something akin to a door-to-door Bible salesman but with a far more sinister plan. A Trump Bible is the last thing Americans need in their homes.
