Stopping crime has been a continuous effort for the people of New York, with most of the illegal activities being done in the city’s higher-populated areas. There will always be bad apples in the bunch, but that doesn’t mean the city hasn’t taken steps to make it safer. Mayor Eric Adams recently made an announcement that Roosevelt Avenue in Queens has had a major drop in crime due to the help of constant enforcement.
Based on the statements made by the mayor, Roosevelt has been a hotbed of illegal activities for quite some time. Many things like prostitution and violence were left unchecked till the start of this year, when the mayor and other officials began the initiative called “Operation Restore Roosevelt”.
This operation involved multiple agencies that banded together to identify and shut down crime-related activities across Queens and other areas of interest. So far, over 2,000 arrests have been reported to have occurred during this initiative. Many brothels, gangs, and suspicious vehicles have been cleared out, causing a staggering 28 percent drop in crime. This drop in crime is only the beginning, as the operation is intended to be a long commitment for the police department to ensure that the crime rates continue to decrease in Roosevelt.
Overall, the city claims this as a huge success and owes its gratitude to the mayor and everyone else involved with the operation. These results are very promising and give citizens hope that there will come a day when they can enjoy their days peacefully.
