Ralph Lauren is an influential American fashion designer. Born in Bronx, New York City, Lauren was exposed to the art world at a young age thanks to his parents being artists themselves. Following his graduation from DeWitt Clinton High School, Lauren enrolled in the Baruch College of the City University of New York for two years before dropping out to later join the United States army for two years.
Lauren’s first step into the fashion industry was with Brooks Brothers as a sales assistant and for the necktie company Rivetz. Lauren expanded to menswear in 1968 and womenswear in 1971, the same year he launched his first freestanding store in Beverly Hills, California. Years later, Lauren launched a fragrance branch in 1978 for men and women.
