Real Madrid Hits 1,000 Goals In Champions League

Real Madrid’s 2-1victory against Shakhtar Donetsk was a special one that made them the first team in the Champions League/European Cup history to score 1,000 goals.

Karim Benzema scored both goals for Real Madrid on Wednesday, but it was his first one in the 14th minute that reached the 1,000-goal mark. The other one came during the second half. Those two goals were the Frenchman’s 74th and 75th Champions League goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the leading scorer in the tournament’s history, which include 105 goals that he scored for Real Madrid during nine seasons. He also scored Real Madrid’s 800th and 900th goals in the competition.

The European Cup was introduced in 1955 and rebranded as the Champions League in 1992.

Real Madrid has won the Champions League a record 13 times, including three times in a row between 2015 and 2018. They also won the first five editions of the European Cup until Barcelona defeated them in 1960.

The legendary Spanish club’s first goal in the European Cup was scored by midfielder Miguel Munoz in 1955.

The German team Bayern Munich is currently in second position with 768 goals and followed by Barcelona with 655 goals.
