The second phase of one of the three casino bids within New York City was announced last Wednesday. Resorts World New York City announced that it has broken ground on its $5.5 billion expansion in South Ozone Park. Resorts World had originally been announced as one of the three successful casino bids last year alongside Bally’s Casino in the Bronx and in Metropolitan Park, Queens, near Citi Field.
Originally opening in 2011, the Resorts World casino made progress on its expansion in April by opening 240 table games and then installing 1,400 new slot machines.
According to the announcement, the second phase of Resorts World’s expansion includes a new Hyatt tower hotel with 400-resident capacity and a new 1,200-room luxury Crockfords hotel. When construction completes, Resorts World NYC will have a hotel capacity of 2,000 rooms. Additionally, a multipurpose arena seating 7,000 will open for various events alongside a new central plaza and parking garage.
Resorts World’s chief strategy officer (CSO) Kevin Jones noted that the casino is set to become the highest-grossing casino in the country and that Resorts World NYC has tripled its workforce to 3,000 since April this year.
Resorts World reported that its casino alone is estimated to make $425 million in tax revenue for both state education and transit by the end of 2026. Altogether, when completed, the three fully finished casinos are projected to generate up to $5.6 billion annually, easily becoming one of the United States highest-earning regional casinos.
