Shelley Duvall, star of ‘The Shining,’ Dies at 75

Shelley Duvall, star of ‘The Shining,’ recently passed away at home at 75 years old. She is said to have passed in her sleep due to complications from diabetes. 

Duvall is known for her famous role as Wendy in ‘The Shining.’ She was also Olive in the live-action ‘Popeye.’ Appearing in over 25 movies throughout her career, her most recent appearance, “The Forest Hills” was in 2023. 

In 1988, Duvall founded her own production company, ‘Think Entertainment.’ She created a famous musical show called ‘Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme.’ In 1993, she sold the production company and called it quits to producing. 

Duvall did her penultimate role in 2002 before taking a 20-year hiatus from acting. During this time, she spoke openly about her struggles with mental health. Her role as Wendy in ‘The Shining’ took a toll on her mental health, as it involved tremendous fear and stress. 

Duvall had been in a relationship with Dan Gilroy since the early 1990s, leaving him with no children. She also leaves behind her three brothers. 

Duvall’s partner, Dan Gilroy, told The Hollywood Reports, “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.” 

Shelley Duvall will be missed dearly in this world. Her incredible acting in all the films she created and starred in impacted many.
