When it comes to taking care of our physical health, watching what we eat and being active are two very important goals to build muscle and reduce fat. Unfortunately, many people either don’t have the time or don’t care enough to go all out and do both. Exercise can’t replace diets and vice versa, but how should we prioritize between the two? The answer differs for everyone, but it all comes down to compensating.
Exercise is important in improving all sorts of functions and can even relieve stress, but its importance varies from person to person. A construction worker can exert a ton of energy and build muscle through their job, while an office worker has no outlet to do so from their desk. The same can be said for diets since not all diets are the same and thus are not healthy for everyone. You must compensate for the lifestyle you live to achieve a good balance.
Let us use construction workers again as an example. A lot of upper and lower body strength would be needed to lift materials out of the way and for other tasks. The body is essentially getting a workout, so workers should instead focus on eating things high in protein. Office workers should also be concerned about what they eat but should heighten their focus on going to the gym on days off and taking time to stretch during work hours.
Exercise and dieting right are both important, but most of us need more of one over the other. Even the bare minimum can make a difference, like going out for a walk or cutting off midnight snacks. There isn’t one way of being healthy, so find what works for you and do your best to live a healthy life.
