The people of New York all had quite a scare last Saturday, when shots were fired in the early morning in Times Square. This shooting ended with three people getting shot and the suspect fleeing from the scene of the crime. Fortunately, all three victims are still alive and are currently in stable condition. Not only that, but police have arrested the suspected perpetrator.
The police identified the suspect as a 17-year-old. During this time, the suspect’s name has not been made public, and the charges have yet to be finalized. Among these charges would be attempted murder, as there is no question that the perpetrator intended to kill.
The shooting took place in front of a Raising Cane’s chicken restaurant, where a dispute suddenly erupted in a violent confrontation. Nearby pedestrians ran away in panic as the gunfire rang out around 1:20 a.m. It is unclear if all the ones who were shot had anything to do with the dispute, but the police believe that the 19-year-old might have been the intended target.
Until recently, New York has experienced fewer shooting incidents this year than before, with the first half of the year being record-low in casualties. Despite this drop in gun violence, fights like this are far from uncommon, and the city still faces many other forms of violence. Although fear still runs among the city’s citizens, the police are doing everything they can to ensure everyone’s safety. For now, everyone should be cautious at night and avoid dangers whenever possible.
