DOJ Investigating NY Attorney General Letitia James Over Trump Case

Federal prosecutors are investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office over a civil fraud case against President Donald Trump. The investigation is focused on whether James and her office violated Trump’s legal rights during their civil lawsuit.

The original lawsuit, which James was successful in, sued Trump and his company for what they alleged were fraudulent misrepresentations of his wealth. The judge awarded James’ office with over $300 million, which has increased to over $500 million with interest, and Trump is now appealing that judgement.

In a similar fashion, in 2025, James’ office also sued, and won, a civil lawsuit against the head of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre. James claimed he was diverting money from the organization for personal use, and a jury convicted him of this.

The investigation of James’ office is looking into both of these lawsuits. It is currently unclear how far along these investigations are or what evidence has been gathered.

As reported by NBC News, James’ office said, “Any weaponization of the justice system should disturb every American. We stand strongly behind our successful litigation against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will continue to stand up for New Yorkers’ rights.”

Trump has long claimed that James is biased against him, and an attorney for James said this, “has to be the most blatant and desperate example of this administration’s carrying out the president’s political retribution campaign.”
