One person died from heat exposure in New York City after a dangerous
weeklong heat wave, officials said Sunday. According to the NYC Medical examiner, the person died of hyperthermia due to environmental exposure. The patient suffered from pre-existing hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema, conditions that contributed to the person’s death.

On Sunday May 22 New York Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency in the midst of a nationwide baby formula shortage. According to a statement from his office, the mayor signed the emergency executive order which will give the city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to prevent price gouging for formula. “This emergency executive order will help us to crack down on any retailer looking to capitalize on this crisis by jacking up prices on this essential good,” Adams said in his statement on Sunday.
