On Friday, April 15th the Florida Department of Education announced that it had rejected over 50 math textbooks from being included in next year’s curriculum. This was 41% of the 132 books under review, and among other reasons they cited critical race theory as reasoning for rejections. The rejection amount is the highest in Florida’s history and is a reflection of the state’s new standards for curriculum topics.
Bill de Blasio was a former mayor of New York City. On Tuesday, de Blasio said that he will not be running for governor in New York, even though in the past months he showed resilience and interest in doing so. He will be utilizing his energy in fighting inequality in New York City. Compared to his rivals, the polls suggested that Kathy Hochul was highly favored. She is New York’s first female governor who focuses on the impact of climate change in New York City, ethics in government, increase of healthcare workers, and education in the prison system.
There is no doubt that violence increased in NYC schools over the past few years. Parents are demanding safety in their children’s schools, but they feel that their voices have been ignored. There are a lower number of agents monitoring the safety of the schools. Once proposed, it would take about five months for the school to secure a safety agent.
