Thanksgiving is Now a Fashion Holiday

While it used to be the holiday for sweatpants and bibs, Thanksgiving fashion has come a long way since Joey sported Phoebe’s maternity pants on Friends. Now, Thanksgiving is the day to show your friends and family how well you’ve been doing – and that starts by dressing the part.

Thanksgiving is the peak event for many when it comes to fall fashion. Leaning into wardrobe staples, a great place to start when considering a Thanksgiving outfit is with a plain turtleneck. Black is flattering, but cream and mauve are also rising this autumn. Of course, fall fashion is all about accessorizing. Everyone, from Charlie XCX to Ariana Grande, is embracing the tall boot this year, and nothing goes better with a big boot than a matching bag and accent earrings. Wide-calf is all the rage regarding fall boots – don’t wear them for the pre-dinner football game!

Thanksgiving 2024 is all about elevated casual. One of the easiest ways to achieve this look is to take a favorite cozy sweater and heighten the sophistication by swapping out your usual blue jeans for a pleated pair of trousers. A long overcoat is another excellent way to take a favorite sweater from cozy to chic.

Denim skirts are having a significant moment this year, but they can come off too casual for an elevated dinner if not paired with the right top and accessories. A classic blouse and matching jewelry is one surefire way to ensure a denim skirt remains a classy Thanksgiving outfit and doesn’t infringe on 19 Kids and Counting territory.

Plaid is one fall fashion item that always stays in style. However, consider a plaid skirt or scarf instead of a flannel overshirt if you want to elevate your wardrobe into sophistication this Thanksgiving. Chunky scarves are also on the rise, especially with designers and knockoffs all trying to recreate the magic of Burbury’s Check Cashmere look.

If you want to make a bold fashion choice that shows off your originality, consider embracing animal print. Leopard print pants are the newest trend Gen Z embraces, especially in a wide-leg cut. Make a statement by pairing animal print pants with a bright top or scarf to take center stage – but don’t be surprised if you outshine the turkey!
