Flashback Artist of the Month for July 2023

Bio

The Beach Boys consisted of a group of Los Angeles natives that had a passion for surfing and music. The original members were brothers Brian and Dennis Wilson, Michael Love, Alan Jardine, and Bruce Johnston. They enjoyed turning their passion for surfing and hot rod culture into songs and melodies. The Wilson brothers were always encouraged by their parents to pursue music.

In the year 1961 the Beach Boys single ‘Surfin’ had regional success that got them recognized by Capitol Records. In 1962, they officially signed with them. Their debut album reached number 14 on the Billboard charts. Their next album ‘Surfer Girl’ was also a massive hit. Brian wrote most of the group’s songs until he his struggle with drugs in 1964. Glen Campbell then came in and became the groups lead singer and guitarist.

In 1970, the group had a falling out with Capitol Records and signed with Warner Brothers. They produced the album ‘Endless Summer’ which was another huge hit. The Beach Boys certainly set the bar high for the ‘good vibration’ surf music genre.
