Since I learned how to read at probably around the age 4 or 5, I always loved reading. There were some books that helped that love for reading to reach adulthood. At age 5 I always loved authors like Eric Carle who wrote The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or Chika Chika Bang Bang the children’s book that taught you your ABCs or ones that taught you about giving like The Giving Tree.
I also loved book series when I got a little older like the Frog and Toad series, or the Little Critter series. Those always had cute little stories that were easy to read. Once I got older though, I started reading things like Harry Potter or Series of Unfortunate Events and those are what really got me into reading. I still read the whole series once a year because it’s one of my absolute favorite series.
Other books that I loved and made me keep wanting to read are books like Hatchet where you don’t get some happy story about a kid visiting their dad for the summer. His plane crashes, the pilot has a heart attack and he has to survive for over a year before he gets rescued. I’ve also read books that were true stories that were not easy to read but made you realize that your life wasn’t as bad as some other kids.
I never had a time where I never wanted to read unless it was books that they made you read in school. I never liked the “classics” like Animal Farm or Fahrenheit 451 because those didn’t inspire inspiration and make my imagination go wild. Harry Potter made you wish you were in Hogwarts, Series of Unfortunate Events made you cheer on the children and beat Count Olaf once again.
I think my love for books is what made me want to write. I just hope that one day that my writing will inspire other young children and make them follow their dreams whatever they may be!
