The Death of Quiet Luxury: How Maximalism is Taking Over 2025

For years, “quiet luxury” dominated fashion and interior design, with its understated elegance, neutral palettes, and emphasis on quality over branding. However, as 2025 unfolds, a dramatic shift is underway—maximalism is making a bold comeback, signaling the decline of quiet luxury in favor of vibrant expression, eclectic aesthetics, and unapologetic opulence.

Quiet luxury, often associated with brands like The Row, Loro Piana, and Brunello Cucinelli, thrived on subtlety. It was a reaction to the logomania and fast fashion excesses of the early 2010s, appealing to those who valued craftsmanship and discretion. However, the trend’s exclusivity ultimately contributed to its downfall. In a world increasingly driven by digital culture, social media, and self-expression, consumers are moving away from the “if you know, you know” philosophy of quiet luxury and embracing the boldness of maximalism.

Maximalism, characterized by rich colors, statement pieces, layered textures, and a mix of historical and contemporary influences, is reshaping the aesthetic landscape of 2025. Designers are abandoning minimalistic silhouettes for oversized proportions, intricate embellishments, and unconventional color combinations. The rise of vintage revival, nostalgia-driven fashion, and eclectic home decor trends further support this shift. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have amplified the movement, with influencers showcasing daring prints, dramatic accessories, and extravagant decor.

This resurgence of maximalism is also a reaction to global events. After years of economic uncertainty and social restrictions, consumers are seeking joy, individuality, and creative freedom in their wardrobes and living spaces. Fashion houses that once embraced quiet luxury are now adapting, incorporating bold patterns, statement jewelry, and theatrical elements into their collections. Even the beauty industry is following suit, with vibrant makeup, bold hairstyles, and striking nail art gaining popularity.

While quiet luxury may never fully disappear, its reign is fading as maximalism takes center stage. In 2025, fashion and design are all about making a statement—whether through bold prints, ornate details, or daring color choices. The era of subtlety is over; the future is loud, expressive, and undeniably maximalist.
