The Good Burger 2: Updates

If you have been to Providence, Rhode Island recently, there is a good chance you may have seen a hamburger on wheels. The long-awaited comedy sequel, Good Burger 2, is now filming, with returning star Kel Mitchell taking to social media to share a video of himself and co-star Kenan Thompson in character on set. The first Good Burger was released in 1997, with fans wondering whether a follow-up would emerge ever since. Well, it’s finally happening, and it will no doubt fill many hearts with warm feelings to see Kenan and Kel on-screen together again.

The first Good Burger was spawned by a comedy sketch of the same name on the Nickelodeon series All That. The movie follows Kenan Thompson as Dexter Reed, a 16-year-old high school student who, after wrecking his teacher’s car, is forced to get a summer job at a fast-food restaurant to pay for the damages. There, he meets Ed, played by Kel Mitchell, a lovable, innocent, dimwit who often causes Dexter all manner of headaches.

Good Burger 2 will pick up with the pair twenty-six years after the events of the first movie and will find inventor Dexter Reed reuniting with his co-worker Ed at his old workplace, Good Burger. The sequel will once again center on Dexter Reed, who is down on his luck after, yet another invention fails.  Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.

Directed by Phil Traill (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth), Kenan Thompson has promised more fun and more laughs when we return to the world of Good Burger for another bite. “I mean, [fans can expect] more laughs, you know. More fun. I think that’s what people love about that original, is how much fun it looked like we were having,” Thompson said. “So, I think that kind of comes off the screen, and allows for everybody to participate in that joy. I’m just looking forward [to it]. Lots of bright colors, that silly Ed character running around.” The first Good Burger is now streaming on Paramount+, with Good Burger 2 expected to be released in November 2023 and debuting on the streaming platform.
