TikTok is a social media platform increasing in users yearly. Already listed as one of the most engaging and used apps, TikTok has 1.04 billion monthly active users worldwide. You would think the features on TikTok couldn’t get any better… until it did.
In September of 2023, TikTok added a shopping feature/tab where users can purchase clothes amongst other products, just like a regular shopping site. The real kicker is that the deals and prices are significantly cheaper than your typical clothing website. Just in the year of 2023, TikTok Shops generated $11.09 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV), according to recent statistics.
The biggest question wondered: Are TikTok Shop products bad quality? Is it a scam? With video proof of shopper’s reviews on their products, it is safe to say it is not a scam. The shopping tab includes highly rated brands to purchase from. For example, someone could buy a piece of clothing from the women’s site, Edikted, through TikTok. More often than not, there will also be a deal on the item.
I have had TikTok for years, and never once thought of buying from the shop until just last week. After seeing my friends purchase items that come in quickly and in pristine condition, I thought I would try it out. I specifically purchased five articles of clothing for the astonishing price of $16.72 after tax! I was baffled. I was also persuaded by all the ads from influencers on the app that review/promote their clothing after receiving them.
This addition to the app was a huge hit worldwide. More than 70% of TikTok users buy something they see from their feed while two out of three users are likely to purchase something while on TikTok, according to a study.
It seems that TikTok is only growing in profits and users from here. If you want to learn how to market your own business or products, it has been said doing research on the strategies TikTok has been using would be beneficial.
