The Shutdown Enters Its Second Week

As of today, the United States Government has been shut down for nine days. So far, the Senate has failed to pass a vote to reopen the government six times and is preparing for its seventh attempt. With both sides still in disagreement, the bill is expected to fail like the previous attempts, continuing the shutdown.

The government remains closed due to a conflict of interest between Republican and Democratic legislators. Democrats wish to extend the Obamacare tax credits system and make it remain core to their offers to reopen the government, unwilling to reopen unless it is added to the bill. Republicans have said they will refuse to negotiate on the subject until the government has been reopened.

In a recent YouGov poll, it was found that 23% of citizens believe that both parties are equally responsible for the shutdown, 41% believe Donald Trump and republicans are responsible, 30% believe democrats are responsible, and 6% are not sure who is responsible for the shutdown.

From the poll, it shows that the American people are somewhat divided when it comes to who is responsible for the shutdown, with the highest percentage believing that Donald Trump and republicans are responsible.

The shutdown has affected several different government services, which some Americans rely on. In a recent cabinet meeting, department chiefs were presented with the opportunity to reveal how the shutdown is hurting Americans. Of note, it is estimated that 750,000 federal workers have been furloughed across the government due to the shutdown and may not receive backpay for lost work hours.

With no hope of compromise in sight, it is expected that the shutdown is only going to get worse over the coming days. Hopefully, the shutdown will end before too many issues can stack up and become a nightmare to resolve.
