There was a point in the history of the world where the idea of politics and having the power to change the landscape of the society and community you lived in was only granted to those in positions of power and status. Royals and nobles were the only ones in their societies who needed to worry about the political aspects of their countries.
Yet, fast-forward to the 21st century. It is almost impossible not to see, hear, and talk about politics. Hyperpolitics is described as a modern-day situation in which politics drive society and are a major focal point of everyday life.
Social media and progressive thinking amongst the common person over the last century have allowed for social aspects of politics to become bigger parts of people’s lives. From Civil rights movements to uprisings and revolutions, society as a whole has continued to focus on politics and its growing impact on everyone’s lives. And social media has only amplified these focuses more and more.
People in the 21st century, through social media, also have global access to all across the world; a society with access to the lives and history of people all around the world. This access allows for people to form even stronger opinions and views on not just the world as a whole but even compare these to their own countries. Creating an even larger focus on politics in society
So is hyper politics a good or a bad thing? All in all, it is a rather good focus, but sometimes in different ways it becomes all too much. From political polarization and almost civil war of politics we have in the United States now, there are many negatives from hyper politics. On the other side, forward thinking and a constant and always push for better in society and in local communities as well.
