Corporations have Too Much Power

It’s no secret that the wealthy control the country. People spend hundreds of millions to control whatever they can in the country, political ads, funding whatever party they’re in support of, and anything to line their own pockets.

Our political parties are no better; they accept bribery with open arms and focus on what investors want over the people they’re advertising themselves to. If you wanted a chocolate bar and your political party claimed if they got into power they’d give everyone a free chocolate bar, but their investors said giving out millions of chocolate bars wasn’t profitable, then you wouldn’t get a chocolate bar; nobody would.

There’s huge wealth inequality in the United States. We know that the top 1% owns more wealth than the combined bottom 90% of US households. Since the corporations have money and investors often decide what these corporations should do, the investors control the priorities of these corporations. However, as we increasingly buy corporate products instead of local business products, these corporations have millions of dollars to wave around.

These corporations have unrestricted power to secure themselves on top and stay that way because as long as they have money, they have power. If one corporation goes bankrupt, they can just merge with another corporation to save their skin.

The lower employees don’t matter; they’re replaceable. It’s the top brass saving their jobs.

If the United States does something the super big corporations don’t like, say deportations that hurt the meat and construction markets, then the United States loses out because corporations can move anywhere they want.

President Trump set tariffs into effect to make other countries pay more to export to the United States, but they don’t pay those tariffs; US citizens do. They just raise the price of their products so US citizens have to pay tariff costs, and nobody in the government cares because they’re making more money.

Since corporations aren’t bound to singular countries, it’s very hard to make regulations they actually care about. Companies like Apple, Samsung, and LG are basically untouchable because we rely on them to make our modern technology. They don’t like something happening in a country; they take their business out of the country, and the country suffers for it.

I would love to see a world where we can take action against these corporations, but it’s up to the biggest market holders, Europe, the U.S., China, Russia, India, etc. They need to restrict the total dominance corporations have, but they won’t. Corporations make too much money; they hold the world’s economy on their backs.

You can see corporation CEOs pulling some dystopian moves, like Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, and the people behind ChatGPT getting upset that people are hoarding RAM for themselves when he’s responsible for RAM prices tripling if not more, as he’s put RAM in such demand that nobody can have it cheap anymore.

All of this consolidates as biggest problem on earth. Countless people before me and after me are aware of this issue, but it’s an issue at the root of global society, where everything is held together. I wish we could fix it, but it takes the top to fix the problems with the top, and that’s how we designed the world we live in when we first established modern countries.
