The Truth Behind Low-Fat Foods

When you hear about low-fat foods and diets, it is often easy to assume that less fat equates to having great weight loss potential. While this can be true in most cases, there are also some drawbacks to maintaining consumption of this kind of food, with other options being just as effective.

The need to cut back on saturated fats can be traced back to the marketing strategies of the 1980s, which emphasized eating fruits, grains, and other options. This was especially the case for cereal brands, who wanted to market their products as a healthy way to start the day. While these foods are often lower in calories, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are healthy. Many of these foods contain large amounts of sugar, which is a leading cause of belly fat. The addition of sugar helps with the taste, but not so much for nutrition. Low-fat diets can also lead to various vitamin deficiencies and poor cognitive function. The lack of fats can also be unsatisfactory for the amount that the body craves, leaving people hungry for more.

The true benefits of low-fat foods are more linked to your cardiovascular health, as they can lower your cholesterol levels and prevent heart issues. It is also much easier to digest than foods with high fats, reducing the chances of indigestion and bloating. If you plan to give a low-fat diet a go, try to consume things that are still high in vitamins, like vegetables and fruits. Do not be tricked into believing everything at face value, and try to eat in moderation.
