The least graceful loser in the world, Donald Trump, has completely lost it. Grown accustomed to the constant ego stroking and unlimited unchecked power, it was difficult for him to pass the baton to President Joe Biden. Since his loss in the 2020 election, he has gone off the rails on dangerous tirades and built a fascist corpo-capitalist following who unflinchingly worshiped him with a religious zeal. Driven mad by power, and into derangement from the loss of said power, Trump has become absolutely unhinged.
“It’s clear that … when he lost in 2020, something snapped in him,” Biden told supporters just outside Seattle at a private fundraiser Saturday, according to reporters in the room, “He’s not only obsessed with losing in 2020, he’s clearly unhinged. Just listen to what he’s telling people.” I agree wholeheartedly with Biden.
Trump’s latest disturbing statement was praising the fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter, referring to him as a great man who had “a friend for dinner.” As an avid horror fan, I do not believe I would refer to a fictional serial killer who cannibalizes his innocent victims as a “great man.” Perhaps deranged, brilliantly so, but deranged nonetheless. Is he going to idolize Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) next? Just when I thought Donald Trump couldn’t say anything more bizarre than he already has (instructing people to inject bleach in their veins, calling neo-Nazis “fine people,” referring to the battle of Gettysburg as beautiful and interesting, etc.) he comes right out of left field with the endorsement of… Hannibal Lecter. Silence of the Lambs is a phenomenal film, but Dr. Lecter is not a hero.
“But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations, the late great Hannibal Lecter. We have people who are being released into our country that we don’t want in our country, and they’re coming in totally unchecked, totally unvetted,” Trump said at a massive New Jersey rally. I do not the comparison between immigration and a cannibal, and I can only guess at what Trump is inferring here. Is he encouraging the serial murder of migrants? Is he comparing migrants to Lecter and painting them as dangerous killers? The only fictional killer I’m endorsing is John Wick. I bet he would take care of the puppy killer Kristi Noem quite swiftly.
But I digress. Trump’s madness continues to grow each day. Losing the 2020 election bruised his superiority complex; he still believes he truly won. That kind of psychotic delusion cannot be anywhere near the White House, and Trump has already threatened political violence if he loses. I fear for our future. I fear for democracy.
