Will BioWare finally reveal details about upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf? (Op-Ed)

It has been almost ten years since the 2014 release of Dragon Age: Inquisition. For almost a decade, I have been yearning for the promised next game in the series to no avail. When EA and BioWare finally revealed the title of the sequel, I was beyond elated, but they have been tight-lipped in revealing any details about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. However, EA is reportedly ready to finally release Dreadwolf this financial year. Eurogamer Editor-in-Chief Tom Phillips reports that BioWare’s upcoming fantasy role-playing game is one of two unannounced games slated for release by March 2025 in publisher EA’s latest financial report. “We have two unannounced titles in FY25: one partner title expected in Q4, and one owned IP title,” EA said in an earnings slide. “We expect to provide more details on timing at a later date.” After ten years of development, it is odd to announce a release timeframe with no other information about the title.

BioWare had already announced plans to fully reveal Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at some point this summer after years of minimal glimpses into the game. In December 2022, BioWare released an in-game cinematic from Dreadwolf that set the stage for long-awaited sequel. The cinematic is all about Solas, a playable character in Dragon Age: Inquisition who seems to be the main driving force of the narrative. Varric, another playable character who first appeared in Dragon Age 2, narrates the video and tells the story of Solas, who was once known as Fen’Harel, the Dread Wolf.

Yet, the cinematic doesn’t offer any insights into gameplay. I have a complicated relationship with Solas. I honestly hated him throughout the entirety of Inquisition, and his betrayal cut me deep. I’m not exactly interested in playing a Solas-driven story, but perhaps if he is the main antagonist… Well, I wouldn’t mind destroying him once and for all. Will the classes be updated with new attacks and abilities? Will we see a new class emerge? Will the open world map include more areas or be entirely different? There are so many questions left unanswered for a game that is set to release soon.

We have received no information about other, beloved characters returning, such as Dorian Pavus, Cassandra Pentaghast, Iron Bull, Cole, or Sera. Dorian is and forever will be my favorite Dragon Age character; his backstory is so compelling and I adored him with my entire heart.

It’s time that EA and BioWare start giving us loyal fans more than just breadcrumbs. We want to see gameplay. We want to see the mechanics. Hell, we want a price point! It’s been a long decade with no Dragon Age content, and I am eager for more information.
