5 Best Books To Get You Out Of Your
Book Slump

Imagine: you’ve been on a reading high for the last couple of months. Reading book after book after book. Becoming emotionally invested with the new characters that come with each new book you pick up. Then, all of a sudden, you can’t seem to even read a page without feeling bored. You’ve entered what I like to call a book slump.

A book slump is when you can’t for the life of you pick up a book. You want to read, but when you try to, you just put the book down within the first 30 minutes. I hate being in a book slump, but I discovered that the best way to get out of it is by picking up an easy, fun, interesting read.

Furthermore, here are the top 5 best books to read in order to get you out of your book slump.

  1. ‘Reminders of Him’ By: Colleen Hoover

This book is about a woman named Kenna Rowan who served a 5 year prison sentence for a tragic mistake. It tells the story of Kenna going back to the town where the tragedy happened, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. While everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut her out, a man named Ledger is the only one who seems to give her a break.

Not only does this book have an interesting plot, but it moves along quickly, which is perfect for someone who can’t seem to pick up a book for more than 30 minutes. Because of its pace, and the slow burning romance that takes place throughout the book as well, it makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next.

  1. ‘Fallen’ By: Lauren Kate

The novel revolves around a young girl named Lucinda “Luce” Price who is sent to Sword & Cross Reform School in Savannah, Georgia, after she is accused of murdering a boy by starting a fire. While she’s there, she meets a boy named Daniel, who seems to be doing everything in his power to stay away with her. Trying to find why, Luce goes on a journey of discoveries and life changing revelations.

This book is amazing, amazing , amazing, amazing. The plot twist, the romance, the conflict. It’s perfect. I read this book in two days, and soon after I was reading the second book in the series. I was on a reading high after reading ‘Fallen’, and I totally recommend it if you are looking to get out of that book slump.

  1. ‘The Naturals’ By: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

‘The Naturals’ is about a girl named Cassie, who’s recruited to work with the FBI to solve cold murder cases. Cassie lives with a small group of fellow teens with special, “natural” abilities such as photographic memory, being able to tell when someone is lying, reading people’s emotions, and profiling.

This mystery novel will have you on the edge of your seat. Not only does it have intense plot twists, but it’s the type of book that will keep you up until 3:00 AM wanting to read more. It’s an easy, fun, interesting read that will definitely get you out of that book slump.

  1. ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ By: Tomi Adeyemi

This fantasy novel is about heroine Zélie Adebola as she attempts to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha, following the ruling class kosidáns’ brutal suppression of the class of magic practitioners Zélie belongs to, the maji.

Although it seems like an intimidating book at first, I promise you it’s worth it. Adeyemi’s writing style flows smoothly, and the way she portrays her characters makes the book entertaining. I recommend picking this one up to get you out of your book slump.

  1. ‘An Ember In The Ashes’ By: Sabaa Tahir

This novel recounts the struggles of 17-year-old Laia to save her older brother from the clutches of the Empire, while Aspirant to become Emperor, Elias Verturius, struggles to find a way to leave the Empire.

Again, although the summary might seem intimidating, I promise you the actual book isn’t. It’s an easy read, and moves along quickly. It’s perfect to get out of your book slump!
