As a part of movement against the policies of trump administration and project 2025, the contentious conservative presidential wish list, people have gathered to protest all across the nation.
A movement called 50501 which stand for 50 protests, 50 states, 1 day, was organized by an online campaign and were held in state capitals. Protesters gathered in cities including, Boston, Atlanta and Philadelphia.
What is project 2025?
Project 2025 also known as the 2025 presidential transition project, is a political endeavor aimed at reshaping the US federal system and eliminating executive power checks in favor of right-wing agendas. The changes include Expanding presidential power, reversing progressive policies, mass firing of federal employees and stronger immigration enforcement. The movement was published in 2023 by the American conservative think group The Heritage Foundation in anticipation of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
The project 2025’s supporters contend that its goals are to prioritize national interests and reduce government bureaucracy and restore conservative principles. However, the opponents of the projects believe that it is a model of tyranny and call it a fascist move.
Protests have broken out as the awareness of the project 2025 has increased. Activists, civil rights organizations and people who are concerned about their future are among the protesters who claim that democracy and human rights are in danger due to the governmental agenda. Democratic leaders have shown their concern as well. The campaign for President Joe Biden has cautioned that the proposal marks a radical turn toward right-wing authoritarianism. Progressive lawmakers, including representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and senator Bernie Sanders have urged for greater public awareness and opposition in the meanwhile.
Another concern has been raised by refuges who cannot afford to leave the country as well as do not have any other place to live in. “Trump does what he wants as if he is the god of the world. the same as what Pharaoh said to the sorcerers… I am the greatest god of the world” says one protester. refugee admission could be drastically reduced, and legal protection may be undermined. Stricker vetting, lesser access to asylum and even deportation of immigrants is being anticipated.
