With the Sweet 16 almost coming to a close, many victories and heartbreaks have been seen. But one game stood out in the midst of the intensity of March Madness: Texas Tech vs Arkansas.
The No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders bested the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks in an overtime thriller. Texas Tech originally shot poorly in the beginning before eventually dialing it up in the 2nd Half with a 16 – 3 run. This offensive surge sent the game to overtime, thanks to guard Darrion Williams’ 3-point shot.
However, the Razorbacks still weren’t backing down. The team’s good shooting still kept them in the game thanks to the efforts of Johnell Davis and Karter Knox. Each of them scored 30 and 20 points, respectively.
Unfortunately, the heart of the Red Raiders – Darrion Williams- was still not done handling business on the court. Williams scored down low in the paint with 7.3 seconds left in overtime, pushing the Red Raiders to 85 – 83. In heartbreaking March Madness fashion, DJ Wagner tried to hit a mid-range shot, but it instead hit the front rim. A crushing turn of events that sealed the win for the Red Raiders and advanced them to the Elite.
The No. 3 Texas Tech will face the No. 1 seed Florida Gators on Saturday, March 29th at 6:09 PM ET. Televised by TBS, this will give Texas Tech national exposure of its competitive drive. Hopefully, they can find a way to uncover their shooting woes, but Texas Tech’s morale has been boosted. So, let’s see if they can continue that energy.
